HKIA expansion plans reinforce Namibia’s gateway ambitions

Plans for a third terminal at Hosea Kutako International Airport signal continued investment in aviation capacity, connectivity and gateway infrastructure.

SOURCE SIGNAL

The Namibia Airports Company reported on 22 April 2026 that the Namibian Government plans to develop a third terminal at Hosea Kutako International Airport.

The announcement forms part of a broader aviation strategy that includes terminal upgrades, runway improvements, increased airside capacity and the introduction of smarter airport technologies to meet growing passenger and cargo demand.

COUNTRY IMPACT

Continued investment in Namibia’s primary international airport strengthens the country’s ability to function as both a destination and a gateway connecting Southern Africa with international markets.

Expanded airport capacity can support increased passenger movement, cargo activity, tourism, business travel and investment while reinforcing the wider transport infrastructure surrounding the airport.

RELEVANCE TO SUNGATE

Sungate’s location adjacent to Hosea Kutako International Airport places it within the economic geography of Namibia’s principal international gateway.

Planned airport expansion does not guarantee demand at Sungate. It does, however, strengthen the long-term case for appropriately planned land capable of supporting logistics, commercial services, accommodation, warehousing and other airport-related activities.
