Etango Final Investment Decision Commits US$353 Million Mine to Construction

SOURCE SIGNAL

Bannerman Energy announced on 23 October 2026 that the Etango joint venture had taken a positive final investment decision on the Etango Uranium Project in Namibia.

The decision formally commits the project to full-scale construction. Bannerman Energy holds 55% of the Etango joint venture and CNNC Overseas holds 45%. The joint venture owns 95% of the project, while the One Economy Foundation holds a 5% loan-carried interest.

Etango’s estimated pre-production capital requirement is US$353 million. Approximately US$64 million had been spent by 30 September 2026, principally on early works. Bannerman stated that the remaining pre-production and working-capital requirements are fully funded through the joint venture and Bannerman’s existing cash resources.

The project is forecast to produce approximately 3.5 million pounds of uranium oxide annually. Commissioning and first yellowcake production are targeted for 2028.

This is a clear progression from the strategic financing completed in September 2026, when the final investment decision was still pending. The new decision changes the project’s status from financed preparation to committed construction.

COUNTRY IMPACT

The final investment decision moves Etango from project preparation into committed mine construction.

Execution will require engineering, civil works, mining equipment, transport, utilities, project logistics, professional services and workforce support. This creates a multi-year implementation programme extending beyond the mine site into Namibia’s broader contracting and service economy.

If construction and commissioning proceed as planned, Etango would add approximately 3.5 million pounds of annual uranium production capacity and reinforce Namibia’s position as a major global uranium supplier.

Production has not yet commenced. The economic contribution remains dependent on successful construction, commissioning, operating performance and uranium-market conditions.

RELEVANCE TO SUNGATE

Etango is not a SUNGATE project, and no direct Etango-related demand at SUNGATE has been announced.

However, a fully funded mine entering full-scale construction strengthens Namibia’s wider project-execution environment. Large mining developments generate movement by specialist contractors, technical personnel, investors, suppliers and professional-service providers, while increasing demand for transport, logistics and supporting commercial infrastructure.

SUNGATE is a 408-hectare master-planned mixed-use development adjacent to Hosea Kutako International Airport and positioned at the convergence of air, road and rail.

Its gateway position provides context for monitoring the expanding national investment and project-delivery ecosystem created as major Namibian projects move from financing into construction.
